The Heelsplitters sound and style harken back to the roots of moutain music, the high lonesome that made Appalachia world famous. They are heavily influenced by the first generation of bluegrass masters: Bill Monroe, Lester Flatt, Earl Scruggs, the Virginia Gentlemen, and the Stanley Brothers. But they are equally influenced by later generations of bluegrass masters as well, including Doc Watson, J.D. Crowe, Sam Bush, Tony Rice, Del McCoury, and the Seldom Scene.
